1910's Zither Banjo (case restoration - here)
Pictures of the Zither Banjo before and after repair.
Separated and slightly shrunk back plate reattached and edge bound in maple to make up the gap.
Neck straightened, as far as possible, it had been fitted with four steel strings I think.
Black oil based paint, over varnish, removed from the pot and French polished in button polish.
Significant neck angle reset. Head veneer corners repaired.
New vellum fitted.
Bridge made in maple with an ebony top. New nut made in bone, to replace a cracked ivory one, with 5 string spacing.
White paint fretboard dots replaced with 4mm inlaid dots.
Strung with Clifford Essex light gauge (.009"-.026") Zither Banjo strings. (1st, 2nd steel, 3rd Nylon, 4th wound nylon, 5th steel)
